Ya ya I know, I did what I always do and start a blog, make a few entries, and eventually let things collect virtual dust. And make run-on sentences. I kind of gave up on the book for awhile because I got busy living my life more than one page at a time. Although I am still a sucker for those star stickers so I'm sure down the road I'll pick it back up again.
But for now, you'll just have to trust me when I say there will be more challenges completed in the not so distant future. Maybe for my next post I'll go through the index and make a list of the ones I've already done...?
Do Or Do Not..
That's right, I partially quoted Yoda.

Dream Theatre...
Alright so remember when I said I don't dream? Well, you should because it was in the last post. And, as it turns out, I lied. Lately not only have I been dreaming, they've been horrible with a capital H! But let's go back a little bit. Every once in awhile, I have dreams about bad stuff happening to my teeth. Either they're falling out in droves or they're chipping and crumbling while everyone else around me seems completely disinterested. Then I awake and spend the rest of my day thinking about my dream and licking my teeth off and on to make sure they're still in my mouth.
But usually I don't dream at all unless I am awake for a few minutes and then go back to bed; that's when the fun starts. For the past couple of nights I've had just terrible dreams that prompted me to complete challenge number five in 'the book': keep a dream diary. I don't really want to, and while it won't become common practice I figure if I get them out of my head and into script then perhaps I can carry on as per normal.
In the first dream, I killed someone and covered it up. This somehow segued into a dream about the end of the world. Not good on either account. Then the other night I had a dream that a bunch of people were in an auditorium and someone released a varied bunch of poisonous snakes and we had to scramble to track down all the required antidotes while the people began to deteriorate at different rates. I googled dream meanings and as it turns out, each was actually something positive. Dream one concluded that I was letting go of old habits in preparation of a new way of living. Dream number two indicates that snakes are "A powerful dream symbol associated with feminine energy, healing and spirituality. Being bitten by a snake in a dream is actually positive, meaning you are accepting all parts of your nature as you grow into a stronger person." Pretty cool, huh? I hope there's something to this because while the dreams were super bothersome, their meanings give me hope.
Either way I think the biggest lesson of all to be learned here is that beer and zombie movies right before bed is not the best idea...

First Challenge...?
Maybe it's because October is rapidly approaching, or maybe it's because I'm sick of looking slightly to my left whenever I'm Facebooking and having 'the book' stare me back in the face. Either way, I figured it's high time I got this mission in gear. So here I am flipping through the pages and I've run into a spot of trouble.
I couldn't decide which challenge to tackle first and doing them in order isn't really possible considering number one is 'send a message in a bottle' and number two is 'run up an escalator the wrong way'. For the record, I've already done that one. Several times. So I elected to flip to a random page and wound up with 'start your own blog'. I've already done this one, too. It even name-drops blogger.com AND amongst it's many suggestions for choosing a topic is blogging about completing each challenge. I'm starting to think this book was a clever way to part me with my hard-earned thirteen Canadian dollars. Or is it?
I think anything that inspires a person to get out and make the most of their life no matter what age they are can't be bad. And a nice detail of 'the book' is that they list other challenges that can be done simultaneously. Here they've listed 'keep a dream diary', 'stay up all night', and 'write a story and get it published'. I never dream so that's out of the question, and anyone who has attended college or had a baby (in my case both at the same time) has pulled more than their fair share of all-nighters so it looks as though I'll have to do the story challenge at some point. But for now I guess I can cheat a little and consider my first challenge out of the way and call it a night. I'm even gonna put a star on the chart for good measure. Take that, book!

In The Beginning...
Well it all started with a trip to Urban Outfitters, specifically the book section. I love every single thing they sell in this store: the clothes, the cameras, the crazy plates with the word 'douchebag' printed across them. But nothing excites me more than scoring an interesting read and there ain't no place more well-stocked than UB, this I can guarantee. It's a smorgasborg of crazy-cool texts that would be right at home in Hunter S. Thompson's personal library.
But what really piqued my interest was this little gem called, "101 things to do before you're old and boring". Now maybe it's because I'm turning 31 in October, maybe it's because I already feel 'old and boring' but either way I came away from that store with a roadmap to self-fulfillment. And a book of dirty Russian words but that's another post entirely; maybe even another blog?
But I digress. The mission of this blog is to go through this book in its entirety. The challenges range from 'Do a Card Trick' to 'Start a Band'. In the event I've already accomplished one of them I will take a poll amongst my friends and whichever garners the most votes I will consider a triple-dog-dare and do it with gusto!
Oh and one last thing I should mention: the book comes with star stickers : ) When I say WAY you say COOl! WAY! (cool) WAY (cool) Do you see how much I need this book now?
